The “Pathetic” meme has been created just a few years back but the origin of the meme dates back to 1990. One of the most earliest, funniest and wittiest animated shows to air on the TV, and that also in the 1980’s was “The Simpsons.”
The Simpsons is not just a TV show, it’s a feeling. This show was and still is a prime factor of our early pop culture. We got a plethora of meme templates from the whole 728 episodes of the entire show, but one of them was used a lot and was the very comically laughable. Principal Skinner is one of the characters and there is a shot of him looking down with disgust. This shot is used a reaction image to say “Pathetic” and is downright hilarious.
IMPACT OF THE PATHETIC MEME
It’s hard to believe a reaction image from January 14th 1990 is creating such a huge impact in today’s meme world. People started using this image around 2015 and they still use it abundantly. To many of us, Simpsons is a part of our childhood. Making memes on a show we all relate to and sharing them with our friends makes people indefinitely happier. Its hard to trace this meme template’s origin but it is believed to be first posted on Tumblr where the post gained over 63,000 likes. The impact of this panel was so enormous that people started posting the “pathetic” text even with different characters which gained over 1300 retweets on twitter.

WHY ARE MEMES POWERFUL?
All of us love to see and share memes. One might think of memes as a vast source of entertainment today. But they have become more than that, they are a part of our lives now. Anything happens in the world, you will see a meme on the internet and relate to it. Memes help us to understand any concept or information a lot easily, because every meme has a different kind of feeling attached to it. It is also normal for an individual, a group of people or the whole world to be hit by a wave of sadness due to certain events. But memes have always helped us to cope up with our stress and anxiety. Even when a stressful situation is transformed into a meme, people become less stressed about it, they feel that they are not alone who is suffering and it becomes easier to deal with the problem.
